Texas Wildfires

In late February 2024, the Texas Panhandle faced an unprecedented wildfire crisis, with fires consuming over 1 million acres, making it the largest wildfire event in Texas history. This disaster not only posed a significant threat to human life, with confirmed fatalities and hundreds of structures destroyed, but also impacted critical infrastructure, including airports and highways, compromising accessibility and relief efforts. The wildfire's breadth underscored the vulnerability of both urban and rural communities, alongside the state's significant cattle industry. In response, a coalition of local, state, and national organizations, including the Texas A&M Forest Service, American Red Cross, and Team Rubicon, mobilized to provide a range of services from wildfire suppression to emergency shelter and medical assistance.
