Central Japan Earthquake

On January 1, 2024, central Japan was hit by a 7.6 magnitude earthquake, triggering tsunami waves and widespread destruction. The impact caused significant infrastructural damage, leading to tens of thousands without power and forcing over 97,000 people to evacuate. The event, felt as far as Tokyo, caused buildings to collapse, roads to crack, and a fire outbreak in Ishikawa prefecture. Emergency services, alongside military personnel and international assistance, are actively engaged in rescue operations. The situation remains fluid, with continuous aftershocks and the risk of further damage, prompting a call for international humanitarian support.
