Cyclone Kabayan (Jelawat)
Tropical Cyclone Kabayan, internationally known as Jelawat, struck the Philippines, weakening into a tropical depression post-landfall in Davao Oriental, Mindanao. Initial data report damage to over P7 million in agriculture in Davao de Oro and significant housing and infrastructure damage. The cyclone also caused preemptive evacuations, displacing more than 102,477 families and isolating communities, such as those in Barangay Pichon. Despite downgrading to a low-pressure area, Kabayan remains a concern for potential redevelopment and continued heavy rainfall across affected regions. Local and national agencies are responding with established relief operations.
